“I’ve been in the pet industry since 1992,” Wolff said. “I started working for a pet distributor, then did pharmaceuticals, and eventually went to grooming school and started showing my dogs.”

All Things Woof offers a great variety of natural pet products and supplies. “We have food, treats, holistic supplements, toys, [and] collars,” Wolff said. “It’s a little boutique-y, a little super market-style.”

Wolff makes sure only natural products are on the shelves at All Things Woof. “I believe that the more naturally you feed and care for your animals, the healthier they are long term,” she said. “It’s a ‘first do no harm’ philosophy.”

Besides caring a wide array of quality pet supplies, Wolff said the store really offers something for everyone. Not only do they carry ten natural food lines, but they also have a selection of raw diet options. “Everyone who works here is also very skilled in nutrition,” she said. “From foods to supplements, we’ll help you find what you need.”

Earth Heart has been a part of All Things Woof since they opened, and Canine Calm is in regular use at the store by employees as well as customers.

“We had a golden retriever named Gunnar come in with a muzzle one day,” Wolff said, “He had been kicked out of several other groomers…and he was a golden retriever! Anyway, they had come in to use our self-service wash station. We used Canine Calm on Gunnar and there were no problems at all. The owners were sold.”

Even people who come looking for something else can sometimes be “sold” on Earth Heart products when they enter Wolff’s shop.

“Sometimes people will come in for Rescue Remedy spray, which we don’t carry,” Wolff said, “and I point them to Canine Calm.”

Rochester’s premier pet-friendly black tie gala will draw more than 200 guests at the Strathallan Hotel, many escorted by their canine companions. Lucky dogs in attendance will be treated to a doggie buffet, animal communicator and dog spa, complete with an animal masseuse. Human companions will enjoy silent and live auctions, raffle, dancing and dinner buffet.

There’s a common misconception that dogs jump on people to establish dominance. Balderdash! Dogs jump on people because there’s something about jumping that is reinforcing for the dog – usually the human attention that results from the jumping. If you want your dog to stop jumping on people, you have to be sure he doesn’t get reinforced for it. Here’s what you can do when your dog jumps on people:

Manage. When you know your dog is likely to have trouble controlling himself, put his leash on before he can jump on someone. When you see the jumping-up gleam in his eye, restrain him to prevent the reinforcement he gets from the initial contact. Other useful management tools to prevent reinforcement include strategically located tethers, baby gates, doors, exercise pens, and crates.

A Twitter party is much like a regular party, except that it is virtual, taking advantange of the ability to party with anyone around the world who has a Twitter account.  If you don’t have a Twitter account, make sure you sign up (www.twitter.com) to get one so that you can join in the fun.  Twitter is easy and it is sort of like walking through your neighborhood, talking with people that you see, using short little “tweets” of 140 characters or less.  When you create your Twitter account make sure you have a photograph that you can upload from your computur for your avatar (your public face on your Twitter account), so that party participants can see what you look like.  Also, please “follow” the party sponsors, they can be found on Twitter at www.twitter.com/lindablairwhf and www.twitter.com/ShibberingC .  Here is a brief, yet helpful Twitter tutorial you can watch if you are new to Twitter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0xbjIE8cPM&feature=related

Twitter parties use “hashtags” in order to identify party goers, this way party attendees easily identify one another, track the party conversation, and quickly find each other to meet, greet and interactively tweet with.  The hashtag for the Linda Blair and Da Shibbering Cheetos event is #Lub2Rock.  So, for example, on the date and time of the event you start up your computer, log in to your Twitter account and can jump right in and send a “tweet” to everyone already at the #Lub2Rock pawty by saying something like “I’m here & ready to rock at #Lub2Rock!”  You can also search Twitter for #Lub2Rock tweets and just watch the party for a while, and when you are ready, jump in to the party by tweeting out and including #Lub2Rock in your tweets.  Tweeting is fun and it’s a great way to meet new people, and in this case, animals, who use Twitter to change the world!  #Lub2Rock is open to everyone, so please join in the fun on August 14, 2010, 6-10pm EDT.

 This online #Lub2Rock Twitter party will be like a regular party.  #Lub2Rock will have bartenders (known as “barktenders” in the Twitter animal world) and invite attendees to partake in “virtual” food and drinks, and “dance” to great music (played by #Lub2Rock DJ’s)! Partying on Twitter is a burgeoning concept, designed to help everyone discover the fabulous social benefits of online events.  That’s why Linda Blair, <insert company name>, and Da Shibbering Cheetos have joined forces to use Twitter to raise awareness for the Linda Blair WorldHeart Foundation.

A crate, or, in other words, short-term close confinement, can be used to help dogs teach themselves two very important skills. The first is eliminating only when and where it is appropriate. The second skill is keeping out of trouble – behaving appropriately in the house. Without these two skills, a dog doesn’t have much of a chance in this world.

A crate is not a place of punishment. Never force your dog or puppy into a crate in anger. Even if he has earned a time-out through inappropriate behavior, don’t yell at him, throw him in the crate, and slam the door. Instead, quietly remove the dog from the scene and invite him into his crate to give both of you an opportunity to calm down.
